Providing 24 Hour Cover

Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic provides 24 hour emergency cover for our registered clients. This means we can provide immediate first aid and pain relief to deal promptly with emergencies at all times.

Out of Hours – 6pm until 8am Monday to Friday and Saturday 12 noon until 8am Monday, Bank Holidays 12 noon until 8am (Excluding Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years Day where out of hours will be classed from 8am until 8am the following day).

We share our out of hours service with Longmead Veterinary Clinic, another independent practice in Shaftesbury.

We have a small animal vet on duty every day of the year (including public/bank holidays) – in an emergency please call Sturminster Newton surgery on 01258 472314. Out of normal surgery hours you will be automatically redirected to our dedicated on call nursing team when we are on call or the Longmead answering service when they are on call.

If you need an appointment, the nurse or the vet will arrange this. When the Friars Moor vet is on-call you will come to Sturminster Newton as usual. When the Longmead vet is on-call you will be asked to go to their surgery in Shaftesbury. Access to your pet’s clinical records will be available when needed.

All patients will be under the supervision of the vet on-call as well as the nurse. The vet will monitor all treatment plans and will attend the practice as necessary.

In a very few cases it may become necessary to transfer a patient between practices, but prior permission from the client would always be obtained.

Whilst we are collaborating with Longmead to provide out of hours for you and your pets, we are separate businesses, and all charging will be specific to the practice you are using at that time. The out of hours costs for Friars Moor can be found here Price List. Longmead will communicate their charging with you directly if you need to use them.

Both Friars Moor and Longmead Vets are proud to remain independently owned and run with no corporate involvement. We are determined to keep out of hours care for your pets local and not send you to a centralised out of hours facility (run by a corporate organisation) which some practices now use.

By sharing on-call duties we hope to be able to keep independent local veterinary care just that – LOCAL and INDEPENDENT.

Out of Hours Prices

The cost of providing professional emergency attention outside “routine hours” is high.  There is a premium for out of hours consultations. (Excluding Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years Day where out of hours will be classed from 8am until 8am the following day).

All patients will receive an estimate at the time of admit.

• *Bank Holiday between 8:30am and 12 noon – £78.76
• *Weekday (after 6pm but before 11pm) and weekend (after 12 noon Saturday and bank holiday to 11pm) – £240
• *After 11pm – £320
• Additional Nurse Supplements Per Hour – £52.50 Per Hour (excluding Saturdays 8.30am-1pm and Bank holidays 8.30am- 12noon).
• Hospitalisation Costs 6pm to 8am – £63.40 (inc VAT) Per Night
• Hospitalisation Costs 8am to 6pm – £73.52 (inc VAT) Per Day
