On Wednesday 29th March our small animal vets and nurses enjoyed an evening presentation by a dermatology certificate holder on ‘Allergic Skin Disease’. These are conditions that tend to cause your pets to have marked itchy episodes with red skin, scabs and often hair loss, this includes flea bite dermatitis, which is seen all year round but often more in the warmer coming months as the flea population explodes in our pets’ environments. Amongst other conditions, we covered food intolerance and atopy. Atopy is an allergic reaction to normally harmless things like pollens or housedust mites. This is surprisingly common and can affect a dog or cat for life. Although we cannot cure this problem fortunately there are many things that can be done to help.
We are always happy to advise on any scratching pets that concern you and stock a range of flea products to help in the coming months. Please call our surgery on 01258 472314.
