Six farmers have recently attended Friars Moors three day foot trimming course. The course started with a morning classroom session led by Julian Allen, Director and farm vet, covering the anatomy of the foot, the Dutch 5 Step Foot Trimming Method and the identification and treatment of lame cows. The following two and a half days were spent on farm with the attendees getting stuck in and trimming for themselves! Friars Moor foot trimmers John and Tim led the practical sessions with vets Eleanor and Julian lending a hand. Attendees trimmed a mixture of fore and hind feet and routine and lame cows. There were also demonstrations using a grinder, sharpening knives and discussions relating to mobility scoring and its importance. Our thanks go to Mr Hodges of Higher Marsh Farm for hosting us over the three days. We hope to run further courses in the coming months so please get in touch if you’d be interested in joining us.
