On Tuesday 20th March vets Alice and Eleanor attended an AHDB dairy meeting held at Kingston Maurward college on lameness and hoof anatomy. Speaker Nick Bell described and demonstrated with his specimens how the anatomy of cows feet impacts on lameness and which features of cows anatomy can be altered by environmental conditions leading to lameness. The specimens were a very interactive way of demonstrating which features of the foot are prone to damage and what we can do to reduce this. Eleanor presented a short case study on mobility scoring and how the rapid identification of lame cows leads to a much improved prognosis. We’d like to thank AHDB Dairy for inviting us to be part of the meeting.
