VetMB DVSc MRCVS
Julian grew up in East Anglia with frequent visits to his grandparent’s dairy farm. After graduating from Cambridge University in 1984 he completed a three year internship in Food Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Idaho in the US before moving to the University of Guelph in Canada where he received a Doctor of Veterinary Science degree for research into bovine respiratory disease.
Since 1992 Julian has worked in dairy practice in the UK, joining Friars Moor in 1994. He is experienced in all aspects of dairy cow health and productivity and has particular interests in nutrition and monitoring and benchmarking herd performance. He won the Livestock Advisor of the Year at the Farmers Weekly Awards 2020.
Out of hours, Julian tries to stay fit and loves to enjoy the Dorset countryside. Holidays are usually spent in the mountains either walking or skiing with his wife Alison and often their two grown-up children, Chris and Emily. He is also a keen competitor in the local vegetable show!
